From Scratch Cupcakes & Cravings

So this past weekend I made my first "from-scratch" cupcakes, and they were a hit!!! Thank you, Magnolia Bakery cook-book.

I made the basic vanilla cupcake and vanilla buttercream frosting, with blue food colouring. I made the icing a little too liquidy, so it kept separating on me. Made a super cool "blue jean" colour, but not what I was going for. It also didn't keep it's shape well for me to decorate, it kind of slid off my cupcake before I could refrigerate them. Doesn't really matter because they tasted awesome. I will perfect them next time. I've made the necessary notes. My cookbook has been christened and is nice and smudged now. Hah.

It made it hard to get them even when they kept slipping.
Regular sized and minis!

My mom did this one, and because it was a bit warm, and
slippy icing, she kept yelling "It has SIDEBURNS!!"
It's the Elvis cupcake.

I also made Fettuccine Alfredo one evening for my brother, boyfriend and me. I got the recipe from my friend in BC, and it was YUMMY. It was kind of touch and go, but I figured it out. It tasted good, but I don't think I did it properly. I'll know better for next time. Also came to the realization that I don't really like alfredo sauce. I get tired of the flavour really fast. I'll probably make it a rose next time. Yum. I love pasta. Sadly, I didn't have time to take a picture of it... Too frazzled trying to make it.

BUT tonight I finally satisfied my craving for fish and chips. The best fish and chip place is off Clark Blvd in Brampton, Heritage Fish and Chips. SOO GOOD. And reasonable prices. Topped off with lemon and tartar sauce, a nice cup of tea that comes in a tea-cosied pot (so British), and good company makes a perfect meal and night.

I was being healthy and ordering the Greek side salad.
I ate my mom's chips though, gotta keep with a
tradition!

Enjoy!

Volcanic Loaves & Cupcakes

I've been baking like mad, (by mad, I really mean once a week) and I bring in the stuff to work. The guys all love me because I bring in free food. I get compliments on them so I'm happy. This week I start the "from-scratch" stuff. We shall see if the compliments still come in. Hah. I bought a cookbook that's just desserts, and I'm super excited to start baking from it. I can't wait. I can't wait to start decorating the cupcakes with actual homemade frosting/icing. It's so pretty and holds so many pretty famous desserts.

But for now, here's some random pictures of my not-yet-from-scratch baking.

Tiz got a little carried away when we made horse sugar cookies.

Cherry Chip mini cupcakes!! Yummy.

My exciting new cupcake liners!

Chocolate & Vanilla cupcakes with chocolate shavings

My disastrous loaf. It tastes amazing, but put to much batter
in the pan and it volcano-ed on me. I cut off the top and
covered it in icing. :)

More next time I bake for updates. I'm really loving all this time I have on my hands to bake!

This Makes Me Drool....

Since Twitpic is being a fail, I'll just post it up here. I finally got my fabulous poutine.... MMMM. I'll be hard pressed to find something bettter!

Drool worthy, I know. That's an XL, because I was sharing with Tiz.

Oh, I went to Coopers with the family and ordered wings and nachoes (which I forgot to take pictures of) but they're wings = fantastic, but the nachoes left something to be desired. Wouldn't recommend them, not enough toppings!! Just cheese, tomatoes and jalapenos. BORING.

A Baking First (For Me) II

I finally finished my cupcakeeees :D

So they're supposed to be Boston Creme Mini Cupcakes, so they are vanilla with custard inside and then chocolate on top. I finally figured out the custard.

Hahah look at me go!

They're not the prettiest... But they taste good!

I really liked making the sugar cookies more than the cupcakes... I'll definitely make those again!

A Baking First (For Me)

I must say, that I'm supremely proud of myself. Not only did I bake for a consecutive 4 hours, what I baked actually tasted delicious. This was my first time baking these recipes, which I had found online, and pretty much made everything from scratch. I'm still currently working on the cupcakes, but it's just the decorating that I'm working on.

As close to a bun in the oven I'm ever going to get :D

Yummy chocolate sauce that'll top the cupcakes

Look how pretty the sugar cookies look!

Close up! They're so shiny!

I'll post up the pictures of the cupcakes, if they ever get finished. Custard is not my friend!

Welcome!

Ok, so this is my 3rd blog that I've started. I'm going to need a schedule to keep up with them. I'm going to add in some of the posts from my other one in here to keep it all together, and the continue to add from there.

This is just something that I do for fun - cook, bake, and write.

Enjoy!
